This SMIBIO project meeting took place on the premises of the project coordinator LNEG in Lisbon. Representatives from partners LNEG, PUCV, UNC and WIP attended the meeting and partners CIEMAT and INTA joined via skype. The project partner from UNAM could not participate and sent his apologies.
The meeting on 20 June served to present and discuss in detail the current status of the conceptual design of the SMIBIO national biorefinery case studies. In order to launch discussions an overview presentation on SMIBIO biorefinery design guidelines was presented by Carlos Cardona, UNC, Colombia.
The case studies for Chile, Germany, Portugal, Spain, and Argentina were presented by Germán Aroca (PUCV), Rainer Janssen (WIP), Florbela Carvalheiro & Francisco Gírio (LNEG), Mercedes Ballesteros and Jose Miguel Oliva (CIEMAT), and Jorge Hilbert (INTA), respectively. All case study presentations are currently project internal documents and available on the project intranet.

On 21 June a visit was organized to the SMIBIO Associated Partner CADOVA, an agricultural cooperative located in the city of Chamusca about 90 km North-east of Lisbon. At the meeting SMIBIO activities in Portugal as well as opportunities for the realization of biorefineries in the rural region surrounding Chamusca were presented by Francisco Gírio (LNEG) and discussed with representatives from CADOVA (João Amaral Neto and Vasco Reis) and the Mayor of Chamusca (Paulo Queimado). During the afternoon, all participants visited the Eco-parque of Relvão (20 km far from Chamusca) where RESITEJO, a MSW-processing plant, is located. Mr. Diamantino Duarte of RESITEJO gave a presentation about the plant that processes 150,000 tons of MSW per year.
